Should I tip the Asda delivery driver?
– Crybabyghoul · 16/08/2019 09:36 They recently always send me a guy who can’t manage it, I am two flights up, and I’m very grateful he does it because I’m not able to do it myself due to health reasons (otherwise I’d be getting it all from lidl myself), but he struggles so much I worry for his health. I try to time the shopping for when my boyfriend is home so the person has someone to help them but its not always possible. I feel like I’m being really horrible here because most of the delivery drivers are nice (this guy barely even says hi to me) and they never complain, I tip them and I’m not left feeling guilty. He literally sounds like he’s going to have a heart attack, and I feel really bad for him. Bearing in mind it’s a weekly shop (£50) and does include cat litter and some bottles of diet coke, but it’s not a huge amount. I feel like emailing asda although the last time I did, asking them if the delivery could come towards the end of that delivery slot so my boyfriend would be there to help the driver, their attitude was “oh don’t worry about it the driver will carry it all up for you anyway.” Sorry for the rant, I am feeling horrid. I feel like asda just don’t care about their staff. They sent me an OAP once who genuinely could not manage one crate up the stairs, and another time I told the driver to leave the stuff downstairs and he left the bags strewn all over the hallway, tampons and everything falling out. I feel like boycotting them altogether. OP’s posts: 1, handleClick() }> Please or to access all these features 7Worfs · 16/08/2019 09:41
- When I used to live in a 3rd floor flat, the Sainsbury’s delivery guys had a trolley for the crates.
- I think the solution is for Asda to make a reasonable adjustment, not sack the guy.

She was advised to get friends/family into help or pay for private carer to cover the whole delivery slot. I know from a friend online who is bedbound it’s the same for them. So if you were permanently disabled you’d likely be expected to do the same. I don’t know the supermarkets she used. We don’t have deliveries where I am (too rural) so I’ve no personal experience. - Asda commit to deliver to Your front door which in a flat I would say is up the stairs.
- The day in their T&C they will will not deliver up stairs to Your front door if they think the stairs are structurally unsafe.
- So the implication is there they deliver to your front door, not the building main door.

Do Asda delivery drivers call you?
Colin Smallman refused to take delivery of the items after being asked to collect them from the ground floor and did his online shop with Tesco instead Video Loading Video Unavailable ASDA CUSTOMER EXPLAINS BEING FORCED TO COLLECT HIS SHOPPING FROM GROUND FLOOR Asda apologised to a customer after telling him to carry his own online shop up to his first-floor flat. Colin Smallman refused to take delivery of the items after being asked to collect them from the ground floor – and did his online shop with Tesco instead.
- The 52-year old had previously used the Asda home-delivery service without any problem and his shopping was always taken to the front door of his Newcastle property, the Stoke Sentinel reports.
- But earlier this month Colin received a text to say he needed to collect his shopping from the ground floor of the apartment block where he lives- which does not have a lift- because the delivery driver had a bad back.
Now supermarket Asda has offered Colin a ‘goodwill gesture’. Colin says people need to be aware of the rules ( Image: Stoke Sentinel / BPM Media) Colin, of Sandy Lane, Stoke-On-Trent said: “I have had my shopping delivered a few times and it was always brought up to my flat.
- But this time I had a text to say my shopping had been delivered downstairs and I refused the delivery.
- I spoke to Asda and was told it was in its terms and conditions.
- In the end I cancelled the order and went through Tesco instead.” Asda’s terms and conditions state: “Where the only access to your front door is by stairs, for example in an apartment block that does not have a lift, our driver will call you and arrange to meet you in a communal area on the ground floor for you to collect your goods.
“If you live in a block of flats and there is an accessible lift in working order, our driver will take the goods to your front door. We always reserve the right to deliver only to the main entrance of the delivery address.” Asda apologised to Colin for the inconvenience caused ( Image: Stoke Sentinel / BPM Media) Asda investigated Colin’s complaint (file photo) ( Image: AFP) Rival supermarket chain Tesco says it will usually deliver to the ‘main entrance’ of an address but can deliver to a particular floor if the driver has ‘permission’ and feels it is safe.
Colin says more shoppers need to be aware of the rules. He added: “In the short term I will stick to using other supermarkets because I don’t know if my Asda delivery will make it. “I didn’t get the refund for more than a week so if that was all of the money I had to live on that week I would not have been able to pay for my shopping.” Asda said they have a duty of care to keep drivers safe (file photo) ( Image: PA) Asda has investigated Colin’s complaint.
A spokesman said: “We have a duty of care to keep our drivers safe when it comes delivering heavy shopping to multi-storey residencies. “However, on this occasion, we would like to apologise to Mr Smallman for the inconvenience caused and hope that the goodwill gesture Mr Smallman has accepted will go some way to restoring his faith in us.”

Can I cancel an order before it is delivered?
Download Article Download Article Online shopping is probably a big part of your life. However, sometimes you might purchase items you don’t need or want. Online retailers or auction sites, however, might make it difficult for you to back out of the purchase. Fortunately, by quickly canceling the purchase and communicating with the seller, you may be able to back out of the purchase.
- 1 Cancel online immediately. Quickly navigate to the website. Then find the Manage Orders or Customer Service tab. In this section, you’ll be able to navigate to a list of your online purchases. Look for the specific purchase and cancel it. Remember, though, the quicker you cancel, the better your chances of not having to pay anything.
- Some websites will require you to send a message to a customer service representative before they confirm cancellation. Be succinct and direct when you send your message.
- 2 Call customer service. If you’re unable to cancel the purchase online, you’ll have to call customer service. When you speak to customer service, provide them with your order number and tell them you want to cancel it. They may be able to cancel immediately.
- The customer service number is usually found under “contact” information toward the bottom of the website.
- Be very polite. For example, say “please” and “thank you.”
- If they say they can’t cancel the order, ask to speak with a supervisor.
- 3 Give a valid, specific reason. Many companies will not let you cancel a purchase freely if you just changed your mind about a product. Thus, you need to provide a legitimate reason for why you no longer want the product. Some reasons may include:
- The ad listing misrepresents the product.
- You found a cheaper price.
- The product is damaged or is not the exact product you ordered.
- 4 Write down the transaction or cancellation ID number. If you are able to cancel your order, write down the confirmation number that the website or customer service representative gives you. This way, if there is an issue with the order in the future, you’ll be able to reference your cancellation.
- 5 Verify you received a refund. After your order is cancelled, you should receive a refund. This may take a few days, so you’ll have to check your bank account or credit card statement regularly. Remember:
- Under (United States) law, if you paid with a debit card, cash, or check, your money must be refunded within seven work days. If you purchased with a credit card, your money must be refunded within a billing cycle.

- 1 Retract your bid. Under certain circumstances, you may be allowed to back out of a winning auction bid without penalty. Retracting your bid may be as simple as hitting “cancel” or “rescind bid.” There are, however, other cases in which an online auction site may allow you to back out of a purchase, they include:
- The seller materially changed the advertisement of the product.
- The seller misrepresented the product.
- You entered the wrong amount for your bid. This should be obvious. For instance, if the last bid was $200 and your winning bid was $2,000.
- 2 Speak with a representative of the auction site. If you’re unable to retract your winning bid online, you should call the auction site directly. Inform them that you’d like to cancel your bid and cancel the purchase.
- Scroll down to the “contact” tab on the webpage. It may be located toward the bottom of the page.
- If you have a long history of using the online auction site, let them know you are a loyal customer.
- Offer to pay a cancellation fee.
- Be polite. Say things like “please” and “thank you.”
- 3 Contact the seller by email. If the auction site is unwilling or unable to cancel the bid, you may need to contact the seller of the product directly. Although they are under no obligation to let you out of the sale, the person might be willing to cancel the purchase and relist their item.
- They may want you to pay any fees associated with them relisting their item.
- The seller may let you out of the sale if they think there weren’t enough bidders and the price of their item did not go high enough. In addition, they could also profit if you volunteer to pay them for the trouble of relisting the item.

- 1 Read the company’s cancellation policy. Most companies will post their cancellation policy or a link to it on the order page. As a result, before you cancel, you should read the cancellation policy.
- Some companies require you to cancel an order within 30 minutes or an hour of placing it.
- Some companies may allow you 24 hours to cancel an order.
- Many companies will not allow you to cancel an order after it has shipped.
- 2 Pay a cancelation fee. The company’s cancellation policy may stipulate that you must pay a cancellation fee. This fee is usually a flat rate, although it may be a percentage of the overall sale.
- In the case that a product has already shipped, you may need to pay a fee and shipping cost of the product.
- 3 Talk to your credit card company. If you used a credit card to make the purchase, you may simply be able to call them and cancel the purchase. Ultimately, this depends on the specific credit card company and their policies. For instance:
- American Express has a very customer-oriented policy and will typically cancel a purchase at their cardholder’s request.
- Most Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards may not cancel a purchase unless it was somehow fraudulent.

- Question What if the website was a scam and I find out after I ordered? Call the police and/or contact the consumer affairs bureau/office in your area. You probably won’t get your money back but at least others can be warned off.
- Question I ordered some vitamins online. I meant to order just the free trial, but I must have accidentally ticked a box for more. They have charged me far more than the price of postage with the free trial. I sent a few emails to the company explaining that I did not mean to order so much, but I have not received any replies. How can I stop money from being taken out of my account? You could block the credit card or debit card that you fed into the site, or you could call your bank directly and let them know that you do not want to authorize this payment.
- Question I placed an order for an item online. It is on back order, and my credit card has not been charged yet. Now I don’t need the item after all, but they have not yet agreed to cancel the purchase. Can I prevent them from charging me for the order? You have to go through the company’s customer service and ask them to cancel the order. Most companies should be able to do it at this stage. Otherwise, you might be able to have your credit card issuer block the purchase, but that usually costs a fee and is probably not worth it. At worst, you will just have to wait to receive and then return the item.

Do I have the right to cancel an online order?
What rights do consumers have to cancel? – A consumer who has purchased your goods via an online platform has the right to cancel the contract and claim a refund without giving any reason or justification and without incurring any liability (unless exceptions apply) within 14 calendar days of receiving the goods.
- This right gives the consumer the opportunity to examine the goods as they would be able to do in a retail store.
- Please note that the consumer does not have to pay for the return of the goods unless you have informed them that they have to bear that cost.
- The 14-day cancellation period starts the day the goods are in the physical possession of the consumer (or when the last item in the order is in the consumers possession in the case of multiple goods).
Weekends and public holidays are included in the 14 days. However, the cancellation period expires at the end of the following working day if the end of the 14 days falls on one of those days. On receipt of the returned goods, or confirmation that they have been sent by the consumer, you must refund within 14 days, if it is found that the consumer handled the goods beyond what is necessary in order to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning (typically as they would be handled in a retail shop), and if this diminishes the value of the goods by any amount, you are entitled to claim that amount back from the consumer (but you may have to justify this).
The consumer unseals certain goods after delivery where the seal is necessary for health protection or hygiene reasons – for example, make-up, or swimwear where the hygiene seal has been removed The consumer removes the seal on audio or video recordings, or computer software The goods become mixed inseparably with other goods – for example, paint additive being added to a consumer’s pot of paint
